It is my pleasure to address you today on the occasion of the Commissioning of the Ta’al Orange Market Site and Services Scheme, taking place here in MararabaGurku, Karu Local Government Area of the State.
It would be recalled that the ground-breaking ceremony of this important scheme
was carried out on 15 May, 2017 by the immediate past Administration of His Excellency, Sen. UmaruTanko Al-makura, geared toward providing affordable housing opportunity for the citizens of the State and other interested developers. Despite the lean resources of the Government, as compared to other oil-producing States, the sum of N1.2 Billion, was committed to the project considering the importance attached to the project, with the objective of enhancing livable environment by transforming the slum to regenerated cityscape.
It is pertinent to state that the project covers an area of 18.79Ha with 148 plots allocated to prospective developers. The project marks the beginning of many of such scheme across the State as we are committed to providing infrastructures and other social amenities for the cizens of the State. In our commitment to attract foreign investors to the State, there is a need to create a conducive environment.
Accordingly, this Administration is committed to the provision of affordable housing, development of coage/modular industries, and establishment of educational instuons, among others. It is our conviction that these gestures will open opportunities for economic activities in the State.
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, this Administration places high premium the area of infrastructural development in line with the policy thrust of the APC
Government in the country. It is for this reason that we will continue to give priority aenon to theconstrucon of housing equipped with modern facilities in strategic areas
in order to attract more investors to the State.
Let me take the liberty of this occasion to inform you that this Administration has constituted an Investment and Economic Advisory Council in the State towards the attraction of investment and other economic opportunities that would assist in the diversification of the State economy. This is the only way we can reduce our overreliance on oil revenue which has continued to diminish by the day owing to falling price of crude oil in the international market. At this juncture, ladies and gentlemen, I call on all and sundry to continue to support the effort of Government in
our determination to bear the lives of our people.
In the same vein, I call on individuals and corporate organizations to support Government by meeting up with their obligaons of paying taxes to boost our Internally
Generated Revenue (IGR) in the State. It is also necessary to appeal to the Federal Government to come to the aid of Nasarawa State in the area of the provision of
infrastructural facilities, especially in the Greater Karu axis realizing the fact that a sizable percentage of its workers reside in Nasarawa State resulting to the overstretching of existing facilities.
On this note, it is my pleasure to commission the Ta’alOrange Market Site and Services Scheme, Mararaba Gurku, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
