It is with a sense of fulfillment that I address you today on the occasion of the Commissioning/Handing-over of Lafia West L.G.E.A Primary School, constructed in collaboration with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), taking place here in Lafia the State Capital.
You would recall that since our assumption of office in May 2019, I made a solemn
commitment to execute policies and programmes towards the improvement of the standard of education, healthcare delivery, and youth empowerment, including the indigent and the people living with disability for socio-economic development of the State.
In furtherance to this commitment, we commenced the construction of the environment for effective teaching and learning to take place. It is also part of our resolve to actualize the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As you are aware, this intervention is among the forty-four (44) projects under the 2018 SDGs that is focused to take care of Education, Health, Water & Sanitation, and Renewable Energy. This is with a view to execute policies and programmes that have a direct bearing on the lives of our people. It is important to note that the SDGs framework identified seventeen (17) main Goals, one hundred and sixty-nine (169) targets, and three hundred and sixty-four (364) indicators, which have provided a
platform for developmental goals for national and sub-national entities.
You would also recall that in September this year, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held a conference in New York, United States of America with the
theme Global Trend in SDGs which led to the christening of the next ten (10) years as Decade for Acon. This is with the objecve of addressing the major challenges of
development in the developed and developing countries which include social, economic, and environmental issues, among others. This conference offered Nasarawa State the opportunity to present its economic blueprint tagged “Nasarawa Economic Development Strategy (NEDS)” which showcased the commitment of Nasarawa State at the global level.
It is pertinent to state that this Administration is determined to integrate Sustainable Development Goals into our development planning. It is for this reason that SDGs in collaboraon with Ecologisc Ltd, organized a training workshop which enabled the State to adopt a template for the preparation of 2020-2021 Medium Term Expenditure Framework.
Accordingly, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are hereby mandated to get acquainted with the workings of the SDGs framework towards the growth and
development of Nasarawa State.
At this juncture, let me call on the benefiting communities to ensure maximum utilization of this school infrastructure for the benefit of our children. On this note, it is my pleasure to make a symbolic handover of the reconstructed Lafia West L.G.E.A Primary School and the Government Secondary School Odurogya, Doma.
Thank you and God bless us all.
