I am delighted to address you today on the occasion of the Flag-off of the Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Programme and Commissioning of Compressed Earth Brick Making and Laying Project, taking place here in Lafia, the State capital.
The event which we have gathered to witness is in consonance with our
Administration’s policies and programmes that are anchored on wealth creation,
employment generation and poverty alleviation through a mechanism of youth
empowerment for self-reliance.
You would recall that two days of assumption of office, I distributed fifty (50)
sewing and fifty (50) grinding machines to some selected youths and women
across the state in fulfilment of our campaign promises on youth empowerment.
The Compressed Earth Brick Making and laying Project which we are witnessing today is the first initiative of His Excellency, “Engr. Abdullahi A.Sule Revolution for Youth Empowerment”. This is apt and timely, considering the significant impacts on the lives of our teeming youths in the society. This will, no doubt go a long way in availing our youth the rare opportunity to shake-off idleness and engage in productive ventures that
will enhance their economic well-being and prosperity.
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, in our determination to engage our youths on small scale enterprises geared towards poverty alleviation, self-employment and actualization, forty-one (41) Fabricated Machines will be distributed to two hundred and forty-six (246) young men and women in a ratio of six to one (6/1), who will be trained in fourty-one (41) enterprise groups. In this regards, monitoring and supervision of the trained youths will be sustained in collaboration with Works Department of
various Local Government Areas of the State.
Similarly, this Administration will continue to evolve strategies on youth empowerment programme for the benefit of our youth and the society at large. It is for this reason that we are determined to train our youth on small scale agricultural and trading enterprise in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) within the first one hundred days in office.
Let me reiterate that this Administration accords major priority to skill acquisition, entrepreneurship training and development of youth, considering the increase number of our youths with enormous potentials yearning to be harnessed. These endeavours are meant to create the needed opportunity for the realisation of individual aspirations and the overall socio-economic development of our State. It is in this connection that we are committed to the upgrading of the existing four (4) skills Acquisition Centres
in the State to Technical and Vocational Training Institutions so that our unemployed graduates will be inducted into various trades and vocations for self-employment.
Appropriate incentives and other enablement would be provided as part of our arrangement towards the achievement of this goal. At this juncture, let me charge the trainees to take advantage of this programme to ensure maximum utilizaon of this opportunity to be self-reliance for the benefit of the society. I wish you successful
accomplishment.
Thank you and may God bless us all.
