Nasarawa State has been recognized as the best-performing state in COVID-19 vaccination in Nigeria for covering over 100% of the eligible target population in the State. The event which took place on Friday 26th August 2022 at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja. Nasarawa State also won the best-performing state in COVID-19 vaccination in the North Central Geopolitical zone. The coordinator of the Award, Zhoda Fadawusi mentioned that, the Nasarawa State Government under the leadership of Engr. Abdullahi A Sule has renovated over 40 Primary Healthcare (PHCs) across the state, provided 35million naira support for 1.0 and 2.0 scale COVID-19 vaccination, and also added the support of 26million naira for logistics in the last 24 months.
The Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaib revealed in his welcome address that his agency will recognize 15 states out of 36 states of the Federation during the award ceremony. He added that NPHCDA has worked very hard with its cherished partners in order to recognize the outstanding work that its personnel has been doing at the subnational level. Dr. Faisal emphasized that the reasons why NPHCDA is giving recognition to the 15 States in providing quality leadership through the setting up of committees, tax forces to manage COVID-19, developing interest in involving local government chairmen, traditional and religious leaders to mobilize people toward taking COVID-19 vaccine as well as childhood routine immunization.
